Our First Impressions

Some of the seeding decisions here raised eyebrows. Section 2 got almost no respect, and the placement of South Park at 7 behind Riverside and Mohawk doesn’t add up. South Allegheny sitting at 13 is downright baffling, and Brownsville — with the best player in the bracket — at 8 feels like a miss.

Once again, section rematches in the preliminary round make the bracket feel a bit lazy. Still, this is a field loaded with talent and parity. The top three seeds — Hopewell, Waynesburg, and Seton — are all deserving, but several mid-tier teams have the pieces to crash the semifinals.

Who Actually Has a Chance to Hoist the Trophy

Hopewell, Waynesburg Central, and Seton LaSalle have the roster depth, balance, and experience to make a run to the finals.

Who Could Make a Cinderella Run to the Semis

South Allegheny is built for chaos — physical at the net and confident enough to make a long run despite the low seed.
Avonworth also has the tools to pull an early upset or two if their serve receive holds up.

Our Picks

Preliminary Round

  • Shenango over Deer Lakes
  • South Allegheny over Carlynton
  • Quaker Valley over Keystone Oaks
  • Chartiers Houston over McGuffey

Round 1

  • Hopewell over Chartiers Houston
  • Brownsville over Burrell
  • South Allegheny over OLSH — avenging their disrespect with the upset
  • Mohawk over Southmoreland
  • Waynesburg over Quaker Valley
  • South Park over Neshannock — one of the best first-round matchups
  • Seton LaSalle over Shenango
  • Avonworth over Riverside

Quarterfinals

  • Hopewell over Brownsville — Gates will be the best player on the court, but Hopewell’s defense wins out.
  • South Allegheny over Mohawk — quick work here for South A.
  • Waynesburg over South Park — could go either way, but Waynesburg grinds it out.
  • Seton LaSalle over Avonworth — too many offensive options for Seton.

Semifinals — GREAT matchups

  • Hopewell over South Allegheny — five-set thriller.
  • Waynesburg over Seton LaSalle — another five-set battle.

Championship
Waynesburg Central def. Hopewell in four — the Raiders ride momentum and claim the title.
