Two weeks into the season, Beaver has established itself as the early frontrunner in Class 3A, but the biggest test yet is right around the corner. Oakland Catholic comes to town this week in a matchup that could shake up the entire classification. Chartiers Valley, Mars, and Hampton round out a Top 5 that is beginning to separate from the pack, while Freeport and others look to climb back in.
1 – Beaver
The Bobcats keep cruising, sweeping Central Valley and Ambridge to stay unbeaten. With Aubrey Bumblis patrolling the back row and Kailyn Connelly owning the net, Beaver has looked every bit like a championship contender. But now comes their first massive challenge — Thursday’s clash with Oakland Catholic.
2 – Oakland Catholic
The Eagles survived a five-set battle with Trinity after sweeping West Allegheny earlier in the week. Josie Fontana continues to be one of the most dangerous hitters in the WPIAL, and her matchup against Beaver’s front line will be one of the highlights of the season. Circle Thursday — this is the kind of test that can define a season.
3 – Chartiers Valley
The Colts keep finding ways to win close matches, edging both Moon and Montour in five-set thrillers. They may not be dominant yet, but Chartiers Valley has shown resilience and the ability to win under pressure.
4 – Mars
The defending champs took care of business with sweeps over Valley and Knoch, keeping themselves steady in the Top 5. With Cecilia Christy and Rylee Woolridge leading the attack, Mars still carries the aura of a team that knows how to win in big moments.
5 – Hampton
The Talbots grab the final spot after sweeping Knoch and then earning a hard-fought five-set win over Freeport. They’re not flashy, but Hampton is building a reputation as a tough out in section play and a team capable of knocking down bigger names.
