Power Rankings Update – Oct 1

Every week, we roll out the Western PA Volleyball Power Rankings — a data-driven look at the top programs across all classifications. The formula blends wins, strength of schedule, tournament results, and even factors like RPI and the Colley Matrix to create a true snapshot of where teams stand. Each week we’ll highlight the Top 50, with deeper breakdowns on the Top 10 and notes on who’s climbing, slipping, or breaking in for the first time.

Top 10 Breakdown

1 – Beaver (AAA) – 0.936

A roller week with a reality check at home against Oakland Catholic — then a big-time response: a road sweep of defending AAA champ Mars. That bounce-back keeps the Bobcats on top and sets the tone moving forward.

2 – Upper St. Clair (AAAA) – 0.934

Statement wins over North Catholic and Canon-McMillan underline USC’s two-way strength. When they pass clean, they can overwhelm anybody in 4A.

3 – Oakland Catholic (AAA) – 0.901

That’s how you answer questions. After looking vulnerable a week ago, the Eagles delivered one of the best wins of the entire season so far: a sweep at Beaver. The meter is pointing sharply up.

4 – Peters Township (AAAA) – 0.901

Solid road win at Penn-Trafford, a four-setter at Pine-Richland that got away, and a South Fayette Tournament title. Peters remains firmly in the top tier with the tools to climb again.

5 – North Allegheny (AAAA) – 0.892

A 5–7 finish at their tournament masks important progress — highlighted by the continual sharpening you expect from NA this time of year. Don’t sleep on the late-season climb.

6 – North Catholic (AAAA) – 0.880

Dropped a competitive four setter at USC, then swept AA contender Seton LaSalle. The floor is high, the ceiling higher, and the week-to-week polish is showing.

7 – Pine-Richland (AAAA) – 0.864

A power jump fueled by a road sweep at Canon-McMillan and a huge win over Peters Township. PR’s serving pressure and tempo offense are clicking.

8 – Chartiers Valley (AAA) – 0.861

Efficient, composed, and clutch: a sweep of West A, a four-set win over Baldwin, and a five-set grind at Trinity on the road. The young core keeps stacking results.

9 – Mars (AAA) – 0.820

Edged Seneca Valley in five, then ran into a focused Beaver squad at home. The Planets are dangerous, and if they can find a consistent 3rd scorer they will be a problem — they’re still right in the AAA chase.

10 – Hempfield (AAAA) – 0.819

A narrow five-set loss at Butler followed by a clean sweep of Baldwin. The Spartans’ remain a dark horse in AAAA.
